GOD’S POWER IN ME
As Jesus was walking along, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” His disciples asked Him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”
John 9:1-3 (NLT)
Have you ever asked yourself the question, Why? Why am I like this? Why am I suffering this setback or facing this challenge? Why is this happening to me? There are many possible answers we could give. Maybe I’m suffering the consequences of something I did wrong. Or perhaps the consequences of others’ actions have affected me.
Jesus gives a different perspective. In the story of the man who was born blind, Jesus said there was no one to blame. The man’s blindness was an opportunity for the power of God to be seen in this man’s life. Blaming yourself or someone else for your situation is not the best step toward lasting transformation. You are who you are, and you’re in that situation so that the power of God can be seen in you. Everything about us and everything that happens to us is an opportunity for God to display His power.
Does that mean God will heal me or change my circumstances? Maybe, but maybe not. The blind man was healed. But when Paul, a follower of Jesus, begged for God to take away his problem, God said this:
Each time He said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
